Big day for the Doncaster ex-postwoman, aged 100, who used to carry a toddler on the front of the bike she used on her rounds

She was the post woman who would be seen cycling with her grandchild perched in the basket on the front of the bike she used on her rounds as she took the youngster home from nursery.
And now Rosie Wraith has something special to celebrate – she has just marked her 100th birthday with a card from the Queen!

Hide AdRosie celebrated her big day with a party at The Beeches care home in Armthorpe on June 20, the former mining village where she has lived most of her life.
She has lived at The Beeches since December 2018.
Rosie was born Rosie Pearson in Armthorpe and grew up at Brooke House farm which is next to the church. She went to the local village school, and used to help out around the farm
Her first job after leaving school was in a florist, but she did various jobs such as working in a WHSmith wholesaler.
She married Charlie Wraith on Sunday, December 29, 1940 at Armthorpe Parish Church, St Leonard's and St Mary’s. But he served abroad during World War Two, after he was enlisted into the army as a cook.

Hide AdWhen Charlie came out of the army he spent time working at the local colliery, and then they managed a newsagents on Balby Road for a few years before Rosie worked up to her retirement as a post woman in the village.
Granddaughter Anne Barker said: “I remember she used to sit me on the letter bag rack on the front of the bike when I was younger.”
Charlie died on December 28 1995, the day before their 55th wedding anniversary. He was aged 78.
Rosie has a daughter, a son, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Hide AdThey joined her at her window as she celebrated at the care home with cake, sparkling wine and decorations as well as her message from the Queen.
Rosie still enjoys a glass of Irish cream and raised a glass to celebrate, said Anne.
